California Roll Sushi Bowls

A deconstructed sushi roll served in a bowl with rice, crab, avocado, cucumber, tobiko, and spicy mayo.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups cooked sushi rice seasoned with vinegar, sugar, and salt
  • 1 cup imitation crab or real crab meat, shredded
  • 1 avocado sliced
  • 1 cucumber thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup tobiko (fish roe) or masago
  • 2 green onions chopped
  • 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp spicy mayo mayo mixed with sriracha

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls
  • Rice cooker or pot
  • Sharp knife
  • Cutting board

Method
 

  1. Cook sushi rice and season with vinegar, sugar, and salt. Let cool slightly.
  2. Shred the imitation crab or fresh crab meat.
  3. Slice avocado, cucumber, and chop green onions.
  4. Divide rice into bowls and arrange toppings over the rice.
  5. Garnish with sesame seeds, drizzle spicy mayo and soy sauce.
  6. Serve immediately with pickled ginger and wasabi on the side.

Notes

California Roll Sushi Bowls are best enjoyed fresh. Prep rice and toppings separately if making ahead.
