Method
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Mix in vanilla extract, then gradually add flour and salt until a cookie dough consistency forms.
- Fold in chocolate chips, ensuring even distribution throughout the mixture.
- Roll out one sheet of puff pastry on a lightly floured surface into a 12x10 inch rectangle.
- Spread half of the cookie dough mixture evenly over the pastry, leaving a 1-inch border.
- Cut the pastry into 1-inch wide strips, then twist each strip 2-3 times.
- Place twisted strips on prepared baking sheets, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sugar.
- Bake for 15-18 minutes until golden brown and flaky.
- Cool on wire racks for 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
Store leftovers in airtight container for up to 3 days. Can be frozen before baking and cooked from frozen, adding 2-3 extra minutes to baking time.
