- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan.
- Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then vanilla.
- Mix in dry ingredients alternately with milk until combined.
- Mix cocoa and hot water, then stir 1 cup of batter into it to make chocolate batter.
- Layer vanilla and chocolate batters in pan and swirl lightly with a knife.
- Bake 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in pan 10 minutes, then transfer to wire rack to cool completely.
- Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze to serve.
