Ingredients
  

Potato Topping
  • 2.5 lbs russet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 0.5 cup milk or cream
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
Meat Filling
  • 1.5 lbs ground lamb or ground beef
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 carrots diced
  • 2 celery stalks diced
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1.5 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried rosemary
  • 0.5 tsp paprika
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tbsp flour for thickening
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Boil potatoes until tender, then mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper.
  2. Cook meat until browned. Add vegetables and sauté until softened.
  3. Add tomato paste, flour, broth, Worcestershire sauce, herbs, and seasoning. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Transfer meat mixture to a baking dish, top with mashed potatoes, and bake until golden.

Notes

For a crisp top, broil for 2 minutes at the end.
