Ingredients
  

Chili Base
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 15 oz kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 15 oz black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 14.5 oz diced tomatoes
  • 8 oz tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp oregano
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Brown beef in a skillet and drain fat.
  2. Cook onion and garlic until softened.
  3. Add beef mixture to crockpot.
  4. Add beans, tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, broth, and spices.
  5. Stir well to combine.
  6. Cook on LOW for 6–8 hours or HIGH for 3–4 hours.
  7. Adjust seasoning and serve hot.

Notes

Flavor deepens over time — even better the next day. Freezes well.
