Ingredients
  

Cookie Bar Base
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 0.75 cup brown sugar packed
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Caramel Layer
  • 0.75 cup caramel sauce thick
  • 0.5 tsp flaky sea salt plus more for topping

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk flour, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Mix melted butter with brown sugar and granulated sugar until smooth.
  4. Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla; mix until combined.
  5. Fold in dry ingredients, then stir in chocolate chips.
  6. Press half the dough into the pan, spread caramel over, sprinkle with sea salt.
  7. Top with remaining dough and extra chocolate chips.
  8. Bake 28–32 minutes until edges are set and center is slightly soft. Cool before slicing.

Notes

For extra gooey bars, slightly underbake and let set fully before cutting.
