Irish Potato Farl

A traditional Irish potato bread made with mashed potatoes and flour, cooked until golden and comforting.

Ingredients
  

Potato Dough
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes plain, no milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour plus extra for dusting
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter optional

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • Skillet or griddle
  • Spatula

Method
 

  1. Mix mashed potatoes with salt and butter until smooth.
  2. Gradually add flour to form a soft dough.
  3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead gently.
  4. Shape into a round and cut into four wedges.
  5. Cook on a hot dry skillet 4–5 minutes per side until golden.

Notes

Serve warm with butter or as part of a traditional Irish breakfast.
