Ingredients
  

Homemade Custard
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 0.5 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tbsp cornstarch
  • 4 yolks egg yolks
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
Layers
  • 3 ripe bananas, sliced
  • 1 box vanilla wafers
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened optional
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar

Equipment

  • Mixing bowls

  • Hand mixer or stand mixer

Method
 

  1. Whisk milk, sugar, cornstarch, and salt together in saucepan.
  2. Temper egg yolks and return mixture to saucepan.
  3. Cook until thickened, then stir in butter and vanilla.
  4. Whip heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla.
  5. Layer wafers, bananas, custard, and whipped cream.
  6. Chill for at least 3 hours before serving.

Notes

For best flavor, refrigerate overnight. Add cream cheese for extra richness.
