Ingredients
  

Chili Base
  • 2 pounds beef steak, cubed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained
  • 1 can black beans, drained
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon brown sugar optional
  • 1 bay leaf

Equipment

Method
 

  1. Season steak with salt and pepper and brown in olive oil.
  2. Transfer beef to slow cooker.
  3. Sauté onion and garlic, then add spices.
  4. Stir in tomatoes, broth, paste, and Worcestershire sauce.
  5. Pour mixture over beef, add beans and bay leaf.
  6. Cook on LOW for 7–8 hours or HIGH for 4–5 hours.

Notes

Flavors deepen even more after resting overnight.
