Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (divided)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (divided)
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  3. Stir in milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour the batter evenly into the dish.
  4. Mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon. Sprinkle evenly over batter.
  5. Sprinkle brown sugar evenly over the top.
  6. Carefully pour hot water over the mixture without stirring.
  7. Bake for 40–45 minutes, until golden and bubbly. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Best served warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
